Pupil Premium

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to state-funded schools in England to help improve the educational outcomes of disadvantaged pupils and narrow the attainment gap between them and their peers.

The funding is available for pupils who:

  • Are currently eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) due to low household income.
  • Have been eligible for FSM at any time in the past six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure).
  • Are Looked After Children or have been adopted from care.
  • Are children of parents serving in the Armed Forces.

Pupil Premium funding is available to both mainstream schools and alternative settings, including special schools and pupil referral units.

If you believe your child may be eligible for this additional support but are unsure whether the school is aware of their eligibility, please speak in confidence with Mrs Drew in the school office or Mrs Pitt.

We are delighted to share that, in January 2026, Berkswell CE Junior School was formally recognised by Bridget Phillipson MP, Secretary of State for Education, for achieving exceptional outcomes for disadvantaged pupils.

In her letter, the Secretary of State praised the dedication and ambition shown by Berkswell CE Primary School, writing:

“This success reflects the dedication of your staff and the hard work of your pupils. It shows what can be achieved when ambition and commitment come together. Thank you for everything you do to give children the best possible opportunities to succeed.” Bridget Phillipson MP

This letter highlights the phenomenal impact of our staff and their tireless dedication to supporting pupils and serving our wider community.

Our success has been further reinforced with the Year 6 2026 results.
